The international market
In September 2019, the world market was quite active due to increased demand in Europe and the United States. Importers need a large number of cashew kernels to produce to serve the demand for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
At Delhi port of India, the price of exported cashew fluctuated but the main trend was increasing. On September 28, 2019, the W180 cashew price increased by 0.9% compared to August 30, 2019. Meanwhile, W240 cashew price increased by 0.3% to Rs 762.5/kg (USD 10.79/kg); prices of W320 type cashew increased by 6.1%, to Rs 647.5/kg (9.16 USD / kg). For the broken cashew, the price of broken 2-piece kernels increased by 0.8% to Rs 595/kg (USD 8.42/kg). The prices for 4-piece and 8-piece broken cashew was at Rs 575/kg (USD 8.14/kg) and Rs 487.5/kg (USD 6.9/kg). In contrast, the price of W210 cashew nuts decreased by 0.5%, to Rs 945/kg (US $ 13.37/kg).
With the optimistic signal above, the forecast of global cashew nuts will recover in the fourth quarter of 2019 thanks to increased demand.
Domestic market of cashews nuts
According to the General Department of Customs, the cashew market in September 2019 reached 40 thousand tons, US $ 276 million in value. The cashews export was down 13.2% in volume, and down 11.6% in value compared to August 2019. But the cashew nuts exports increased by 35.5% in volume and 8.7% in value compared to September 2018. In the first 9 months of 2019, cashew exports reached 326 thousand tons, worth US $ 2.381 billion. The figure was up 20.2% in volume, but down 6.0% in value compared to the first 9 months of 2018. The average export price of cashew in September 2019 reached US $ 6,908/ton. The price was higher 1.8% compared to August 2019. And the average export price of cashew reached US $ 7,303/ton, down 21.8% compared to the first 9 months of 2018.
In August 2019, the cashew nuts market of almost all grades of cashew kernels increased compared to August 2018, except for the export of grade SP. Specifically, exports of cashew nuts type W320 reached 21.4 thousand tons, worth US $ 151.21 million, up 26% in volume and up 1.6% in value. In particular, exports to the United States, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Australia increased. Notably, the export of W320 cashew nuts to some markets such as France increased by 160.6%, Turkey increased by 252.6%. In the first 8 months of 2019, W320 cashew nut exports reached 122.6 thousand tons, worth US $ 936.35 million, up 2.3% in volume, but down 19.2% in value compared to the first 8 months. in 2018. Particularly, exports to many markets increased, including China, Canada, Germany, Australia, England, France, Turkey, Belgium. On the contrary, W320 cashew nuts exports to the United States, Netherlands, Thailand, Italy, Taiwan decreased.
